Know your menstrual cycle; Postinor 2: When is it necessary to take the pill?
A lot of ladies frequently use emergency contraceptives, a very popular brand is Postinor 2.
Do you know that you don't have to take the pill after every unprotected sex?
What would you say if you were told there is a way to find out if you need to use it even after unprotected sex?
Do you know that you can save yourself the embarrassment of being "stained" in public by accurately predicting when your next period will start?
Are you tired of those unwanted pregnancies? then know your safe periods now.
Those mood swinges/ changes you experience; find out if you are actually worried or it is just your hormones that are making you act up?
The solution to all the questions lie in one simple sentence:
UNDERSTANDING YOUR MENSTRUAL CYCLE.
Your Menstrual cycle is the number of days between the first day of your period and the start of your next period. The image above is a 28 days cycle but it is perfectly normal for it to last anywhere from 21 to 35 days.
Also the bleeding period indicated above is about 7 days but anywhere between 3 to 7 is normal.
OVULATION AND FERTILE PERIOD
Using the image of a 28 days cycle below, the ovulation occurs on the 14th day, the fertile periods are indicated in yellow colours (day 12 to day 16) i.e 2 days before and 2 days after your ovulation.
it is really important during these days to avoid unprotected sex if you do not intend to get pregnant except you are on other contraception methods.
N.B: You will notice mucus on your panties this period, it gets really clear on the ovulation day.
SAFE PERIOD
The third day after the ovulation i.e on 17th marks the begining of the safe period, these days are indicated in grey colour above. The 17 to the 28 day is the premenstrual safe period, the post menstrual safe period occurs immediately after the bleeding period for about two days when the vaginal orifice feels dry.
HOW TO MONITOR YOUR CYCLE
1. Calendar method: this can be done easily in 3 steps: (for a 28 days cycle)
a. Get a calendar and use a easy sign or a colored pen to indicate the first day of your period.
b. Count 14 days from the first day, using another sign indicate your ovulation date.
c. From the first day of your menstual cycle count 28 days, the day after the 28th day marks the beginning of another cycle i.e the first day of your next period.
Easy as ABC
2. Use of mobile applications
The good news is that you can easily download applications on your mobile that can help you monitor your cycle, if you can't do the above. Examples of such apps include Lady timer, Period tracker, Love cycles et.c these apps send you notification and can back up your information if you want.
N.B : For very private people you can download privacy lock to lock the app.
